TECH HEROES SCHOOL HOLIDAY CLUB

The City of Melton January Tech Heroes School Holiday Club created by Western BACE and powered by the City of Melton Libraries Team. Girls and Boys Aged 5-15 from the City of Melton can join in a range of free self-paced Robotics, pop-up, Coding, Design, Tech, and Advanced challenges this School Holiday. Group and 1-1 online support will be provided by the Western BACE STEM Squad and robotics kits by the Western BACE STEM Lending Library. Additionally, participants have the opportunity to earn extra points towards the City of Melton verse City of Yarra Reading Competition. At the end of the program participants will have a chance to submit their challenges and go in the running to win a robotics kit. 

A great first introduction for younger girls and boys aged 5-8 to STEM. Under the guides of the Western BACE STEM Squad, participants will be taken through a series of coding activities delivered in-person. Children will learn the basic principles of programming and coding an Ozobot, a miniature line following robot which can sense and understand instructions using markers or stickers. This is a fun, engaging and low-pressure activity, no prior coding experience is required.

Inspired by array of United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), these school holidays the City of Melton January Tech Heroes School Holiday Club will show kids how they can make a positive impact in the world using STEM.

A great Introduction for girls and boys to 3D Design. Using free, online, beginner-friendly CAD design software under the guidance of the Western BACE STEM Squad, kids will think, create, and make. Kids will complete a series of design challenges including designing their own vehicle and get an introduction to design thinking and how design has become an important part in today's technological world. There may also be the opportunity to print designs using the latest 3D printer technology!

Learn the basics of space, rocket science and orbital mechanics! We promise, it’s not as hard as it seems. Using 'Kerbal Space Program': a simulation game all about space science, design and create a rocket, and launch it into space! Expect explosions.

Coding using Python is a great introduction to both fundamental programming ideas and python programming language. It’s the perfect first language for boys and girls of all ages to learn the basics of software development by completing interactive coding challenges. Delivered online this challenge is designed to complete at home at children own pace with support from the Western BACE STEM Squad.

Girls and Boy will be using robotics kits such as Codey Rockey and Sphero for Robotics Challenges, and free online resources with programming languages like Scratch to complete the online coding challenges
